La Plata Garden Club
September 27, 2018
Cobb Island Civic Center, Cobb Island
Dianne Shisler welcomed the membership to the meeting at the Cobb Island Civic Center. Due to the weather, the meeting was moved to this location instead of Cheri Brady’s home. Cheryl Swartzwelder introduced her sister as her guest for the evening.
Delicious refreshments were provided by Cheri Brady (Chairperson) and her committee, Carol Flowers, Betty Hayes, Sherrie Zimmer, Betty Ann Combs, Janice Lackey-Waters, Marian Bruemmer, and Elaine Miller. The committee did a wonderful job of providing a tasty lite supper and beautiful autumn arrangements.
Mary Ann Wade introduced tonight’s speaker, Mike Callahan, local naturalist, historian, and teacher with the Charles County Public Schools. We had a wonderful presentation on Monarch Butterflies! We learned about the different stages of the Monarch Butterflies, how to identify the gender of the butterflies, what plants were compatible with the butterflies. Mike, Debbie Chute, Linda Abbe, and Dianne Shisler had already collected butterflies which we tagged and set free outside for their migration journey. Tonight’s presentation was very informative and exciting! Thank you Mary Ann Wade for getting our guest speaker!
