Garden Club of Annapolis - May Fair Cancellation

4/13/2016

I'm not sure if we sent out information on this event, but just in case we did or if someone heard about it from another source, the event has been cancelled.  See below:

Garden Club of Annapolis has decided to cancel this event on May 1. They reluctantly came to this decision due to competition from other events and limited parking associated with their temporary home.

If you have already sent in your reservation, they will be returning your payment.

Each is a gifted speaker and the topics are diverse with appeal to all whether you live in a condo or private home.  This event is open to the public so you may also bring guests.  With a location that is close-by, it is a great opportunity.

Below is additional information and the registration form is attached.

Attention Plant and Garden Lovers!
District I FGCMD is sponsoring a full day program dedicated to the Horticulture Lovers.  The topics are diverse, the speakers are great and many of them are bringing items to sell.  The cost is only $40 for the full day plus lunch.  It will be conveniently located at the Volunteer Fire Department in Easton from 8:45 am – 3:30 pm on Tuesday, April 19th.  Below is a summary of the speakers and the registration form is attached.  It is a great gift for the garden lover.  Plan to come and bring your friends.

“Seedy Business” with Barbara Melera.
Growing your garden from seed can be easy, rewarding and fun.   Barbara is President and CEO of the D. Landreth Seed Company  the oldest seed house  in America, established in 1784 and the fourth oldest US corporation.  The D. Landreth Seed Company is one of the leading providers of heirloom vegetable, flower and herb seed.  The company ships its product worldwide.  Barbara will be selling seeds and other gardening products at her booth.

“Essential Native Perennials” with Ruth Rogers Clausen,
Ruth was trained in horticulture in the UK .  She has written several acclaimed gardening books and lectures widely; in 1989 Perennials for American Gardens  (co-authored by Nicolas H. Ekstrom) was published by Random House, and received the GWA Gold Award; Hearst Books published Dreamscaping in 2003. Her book about successful gardening in deer country: 50 Beautiful Deer-Resistant Plants (Timber Press, 2011) is in its fifth printing. Essential Perennials, co-authored with Thomas Christopher (Timber Press), was released in January 2015. Ruth was Horticulture Editor for Country Living Gardener for more than 7 years.  Ruth will be selling and signing her gardening books at her booth.

“Square Foot Gardening” featuring Michael Baker - a Certified Square Foot Garden (SFG) instructor for the SFG Organization. The Square Foot Gardening Foundation started back in 1981 when our Founder, Mel Bartholomew asked a few simple questions – much like the ones we are still hearing today about gardening.  Why do we plant in long rows? Why do we plant so many seeds? Why do I want to weed? Why should I garden?  Michael introduce a new and better way to garden, demonstrating how easy, efficient, time saving and fun it is to garden using the Square Foot Gardening method for any size garden.

“Gardening for Life:  Tools for Growing Healthy, Staying Healthy” by Ann Adams and Liz Brensinger: Co-owners of Green Heron Tools, the first company dedicated to scientifically designing agricultural tools & equipment for women.  Avid organic gardeners and former small-scale farmers, they apply backgrounds in nursing and public health to helping gardeners stay healthy and choose and use tools wisely.
They will be selling specialized garden tools and other products at their booth.

“Monarch Butterfly Waystations”  speakers from Environmental Concerns will introduce the Mid-Atlantic Monarch Consortium and provide information so you can build a Monarch Butterfly Habitat.
The Environmental Concern Table will be selling milkweed plugs and Native Plants.

The Talbot County Master Gardeners: Master Gardeners will be on hand at their booth with educational gardening handouts, selling soil test kits and will be happy to answer any garden related questions.
