Everything is now complete for our first meeting of the year. It will be held on February 16, (not our usual date) at the LaPlata Fire Hall at 7:00 p.m. I am happy to tell you that it will be something completely different - IKEBANA- the art of Japanese flower arranging!
Our speaker will be Dr. Bruce Wilson, professor of Literature and Art History at St. Mary's College. He introduces his students to Ikebana each year as part of his seminar on "Japanese Arts and Ways". Dr. Wilson spends his summers in Japan studying Japanese flower arranging. He has given presentations at the National Geographic Society, the Hillwood Museum and Gardens and the Walters Gallery. He also offers instruction in this art form both on Capitol Hill and at his farm in Dameron, MD. We are so lucky to have him as our speaker!
At our meeting, Dr. Wilson will create four arrangements, teaching us the principles of this Japanese technique. I am very excited about this program and hope to see everyone there! NO SNOW!!!
